Let's find out a little more about Adrian's illustration journey to date.

Adrian Wilczynski

Where are you from?

I come from Piensk, a small town in southwestern Poland. I also had the opportunity to live in larger cities such as Copenhagen and Leicester over the last few years. After returning to my hometown, I realized that the peace and quiet of a small town really helps me focus on growing my career, especially when I can do 100% of my work remotely. Let me tell you, this is a lovely time to be an artist!

What inspired you to be an illustrator?

Perhaps the short time I lived in Leicester influenced me the most. I studied graphic design there for a while. Studying at the university opened my eyes to entirely new methods of expression and professional perspectives.

How long have you been working as an illustrator?

I have been doing illustration since 2020. Counting the designs I created for tattoo purposes - since 2018. Yes, it all actually kicked off when I started tattooing. However, in 2020, the pandemic came. It pushed me to look for new perspectives through remote work. Obviously, I'm super glad it did!

How would you describe your illustration style?

Eye-catching colours, dynamic compositions, expressive textures, and memorable, full-of-life characters. These are the elements I pay special attention to in each project. Perhaps the easiest way to describe my is contemporary, expressive digital art. Digital art that wants to look more like traditional art

Who/What have been your key influences as an illustrator?

I'm not sure which of the artists influences me the most. But I do love the playfulness of the distorted compositions of Javi Aznarez. I am fascinated by the full of childish energy textures of Gosia Herba. And I am always impressed by the vibrant, dynamic characters of Benedikt Kaltenborn. So that is, I guess, my top 3 right now.

What type of projects, clients or illustration markets would you like to work in?

Working on books definitely brings me the most satisfaction. I like it when my illustrations have space to tell a specific story. Of course, I don't limit myself to books. I will be more than happy to work on any project as long as the brief is exciting.

What do you like doing when you are not illustrating?

Apart from illustrating, I also do other things related to drawing. Foremost, I am tattooing again. I also occasionally run special workshops for children. I teach kids how to have fun while drawing and help to develop their imaginations. Outside of work, I'm a culture fanatic in general! A good movie, video game, book, or music makes my free time more enjoyable. Also, do you see this dog in my main picture? I love to walk this dog.
