We are delighted to announce that Beehive artist Xavier Mula has been shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards 2021, which is in partnership with the AOI.
The shortlist of 200 projects has been selected by a panel of judges from over 5,280 entries from 82 countries. The winning and highly commended projects in each category will be announced on the 12th October 2021.
Xavier was commissioned by 'Barcelona en Comú', a political party, to create a poster for an advertising campaign called 'Sentit Comú' ('Common sense') to illustrate the message 'Sense planeta no hi ha vida' ('Without planet, there is no life'). The message draws attention to the fight against the climate emergency and the future implications to come, expressed through a powerful, combative and hopeful image.
Xavier discusses his thoughts behind the image: "It was difficult to capture such a global concept in a single image, but I knew it had to show a powerful image, of a conscientious community that fights against climate change, but with a happy, positive and hopeful tone. This is a digital drawing using Adobe Photoshop and a Wacom Cintiq."
